An Art Utopia

Making and Offering Art in Louisville's Beautiful Shelby Park Neighborhood

Art enables us to find ourselves and
loose ourselves at the same time

Thomas Merton

Meet the Artist

I’m a painter. Abstract Expressionism or splashing around in color and form is the way my soul speaks. I also have a wild love affair going with warm glass. I am a serial dabbler- sometimes a piece of driftwood will inspire me to make a chandelier. A lonely iridescent beetle can inspire a series of tin works. My Atelier is well appointed with twigs, bits of lovely paper, and strings too short to save.

Born in Lou-a-vul. Grew up in the now trendy Highlands neighborhood. Then headed to the western spine of this land where I spent the next forty years. First in Colorado- where the natural beauty was a daily feast for my senses. After twenty years, the wanderers star took me to Santa Fe New Mexico- where the light and the land completely enchanted me. After this third quarter- the star whispered, “Time to go home”. So , I returned to the Ville- landing in Shelby Park where I live in artopia.

Thoughts from the Idea Fairy

What gets me, “In the feels”? Breathing in the beautiful art made by human hands speaking in form and color, music and movement. And I feel whole when breathing out my wee bits of soul juice in colors and forms.

“The function of art is to do more than tell it like it is—it’s to imagine what is possible.”—bell hooks

Art is not a thing. It’s a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted.- Kahlil Gibran

Tickling the Muse

Art making always begins with the simple understanding that it is the process, not the product where the juice is. It is the exploration of the velvety glide of a brush across the paper, or the cool dampness of a piece of clay.
